You already know how very, very long it takes YOU to assemble a piece of IKEA furniture, but have you ever wondered how long it would take the folks from your favorite bottle shops to do it??
Well, we have. And at 7pm on 10/7, we’re pitting Orange & Brew, Iron & Glass, Beer on the Wall, and Crooked Arm Vinyl & Tap against each other in a four-way match to see who can CORRECTLY build a dresser the fastest. Good natured sabotage is permitted, so long as it doesn’t affect the structural integrity of the finished dresser.
Maybe you’re thinking, “Tag me in! I can build that sh*t like it’s my job!” Fortunately for you, we’ll also have a couple of speed-building challenges PRIOR to the main Bottle Shop Battle where you can prove your own skills with an allen wrench.Spectators will also have the chance to win prizes by correctly predicting which team will finish first, which team will be the coolest under pressure, etc.
So but like, why are we doing this? Is competitive dresser-building a TikTok trend or something? Not that we know of, but there IS an actual, really good reason for this otherwise seemingly random event:The dressers and other assembled items will be donated to our 2024 non-profit partner, Sharing Connections, to help transform their clients’ houses into homes. SC works with local social services orgs to help families move onwards and upwards from challenging circumstances such as homelessness and domestic abuse.
Ticket sales from an awesome class taught by local meat man Jake Leffelman earlier this summer helped cover the costs of the dressers — big shout out to Leffelman Meat Center in DG for their support! (Go buy some sausages from them this week, why doncha?)
We can’t wait to see how this all goes. At a minimum, we’re sure of two things: 1) it will be hilarious, and 2) it will result in 5 brand spanking new dressers for families in need. So save the date, and plan to spend that Monday evening (10/7) cheering on (or jeering at) the intrepid competitors who are so generously donating their time, skills, and merch to help make our community an even better place to live. We’re working on getting a food vendor, too — stay tuned!
